Criteria for the best Claude mods
We select 10–15 mods covering all six categories, with at least one pick per category. Every pick must pass modern claude plugin validate at its listed SHA with a complete hooks/calls inventory, have source-verified marketplace and plugin install commands, and come from a repository with a commit in the 90 days before the source snapshot. Repository activity does not prove that an individual mod was recently maintained.
No paid placements, automatic safety scores, or popularity-only rankings. Evidence gaps stay visible, and a changed SHA invalidates the earlier permission review.
Compare mods by task
For readability, compare UI mods and terminal requirements. For guardrails, examine interception scope and failure cases. For workflow, review prompt or command changes. For monitoring, distinguish estimates from billing. For integrations, review external accounts, network use, credentials, and potential fees.
Evidence and limits
Source and validation snapshot: 2026-10-08; editorial selection: 2026-10-09. A verified source listing can remain in the directory without being eligible for this shortlist. cctop is excluded because validation failed at its pinned source. We have not installed, activated, or run these mods, and have not exhaustively reviewed dependencies or indirect behavior. Not declared means a capability is not listed by claude plugin validate; it is not a guarantee. Maintenance and compatibility can change after the snapshot.

MOD-023 · Karan Bansal
image-peek ↗
image-peek brings pasted-image previews into the terminal instead of making you switch windows to inspect them. It suits image-heavy coding sessions; terminal image support varies, and its process calls need review before use.

MOD-028 · Michael Goldenberg
guardrails ↗
guardrails combines configurable command and path rules with a reviewable block log, giving users a place to inspect their chosen boundaries. It suits people who want explicit checks around tool calls; rule coverage can miss cases and does not replace reviewing a command.

MOD-026 · Michael Goldenberg
command-hub ↗
command-hub provides a searchable home for slash commands and a draft workflow for creating them. It suits users with a growing command collection; inspect the draft-save path and prompt changes because it can write files and read environment names.
Modern validate 2.1.293 passed · repository commit · source-matched install commands, not installation-tested.
MOD-031 · Michael Goldenberg
notify ↗
notify collects task completions and approval requests in one panel, with optional desktop alerts. It suits users who step away from long-running work; inspect the OS notification process and tool-check behavior before trusting an alert workflow.

MOD-032 · Michael Goldenberg
prompt-coach ↗
prompt-coach offers a rewrite review before a prompt is submitted, making it useful for users who want help clarifying a request. It suits deliberate prompt editing; review the suggested text yourself and account for remote model calls and possible usage costs.

MOD-040 · OneWave AI
code-pet ↗
code-pet adds a pixel companion that reacts to session activity, covering a playful use case without pretending to improve code quality. It suits users who enjoy visual feedback; its prompt and tool subscriptions still deserve review even though the feature is entertainment.

MOD-002 · Arunjay
context-lens ↗
context-lens focuses on context-window occupancy and changes between turns, giving users a narrower alternative to a full dashboard. It suits long conversations where context pressure matters; treat its display as a snapshot of reported usage, not a compatibility or billing guarantee.
Modern validate 2.1.293 passed · repository commit · source-matched install commands, not installation-tested.
MOD-047 · Stephen Casella
flightdeck ↗
flightdeck combines session vitals, permission-check activity, and subagent timelines in one view. It suits users coordinating several agents; its broad event coverage exposes more session activity, and the display is not an independent authorization system.
Modern validate 2.1.293 passed · repository commit · source-matched install commands, not installation-tested.
MOD-035 · Michael Goldenberg
usage-meter ↗
usage-meter puts plan limits, spending, and cache information in a dedicated panel, separating usage monitoring from workflow controls. It suits users watching session consumption; reported values and thresholds should be compared with provider billing rather than treated as invoices.

Integrations picks
MOD-050 · zenbu-labs
terminal-browser ↗
terminal-browser embeds a browser alongside the conversation, reducing window switching for users who inspect web pages while coding. It suits browser-assisted work; check terminal support and the local bridge because network requests, process execution, and tool interception are part of its recorded behavior.

MOD-041 · OneWave AI
inbox-alerts ↗
inbox-alerts brings Gmail and Slack notifications into the terminal so communication can sit beside ongoing work. It suits users who already have the relevant service connections; review the actual MCP servers, account access, and message-triage actions before enabling it.

Frequently asked questions
Are the most starred mods the best?
Not necessarily. Stars belong to the repository and can cover many unrelated plugins. Our selection criteria prioritize task fit, compatibility, maintenance context, and review evidence.
Can an unreviewed mod appear in the shortlist?
No. A pick must have a successful modern validation inventory and verified source/install-command evidence at the listed SHA. This does not require or imply an exhaustive dependency safety review; validation failures and missing evidence exclude an entry.
